  • InMobi: Already a Force, Now the Money to Gamechange

    Softbank is so confident that it will that it has placed a whopping $200 million investment in InMobi.

    Mobile advertising has yet to explode into a major force, but Softbank is so confident that it will that it has placed a whopping $200 million investment in InMobi, a leader in the space.

    The funding for the largest independent mobile ad network, announced this morning, will come in two stages: $100 million this year, and another $100 million next year. InMobi will use the money to take on a daunting list of competitors, including Google and Apple.

    As Todd Wasserman at Mashable reports, companies are only expected to spend $1.1 billion on mobile advertising this year.

    But that’s not stopping heavy betting on the future of the genre. Google spent $750 million to buy AdMob in 2009, and Apple plunked down $250 million for Quattro Wireless in early 2010.

    And now comes the massive investment in InMobi.
