  • You Hurting: Then Stop the Pain Yourself

You better become your own advocate or else – this thing might end a lot worse than you imagine.

I always suggest that Upstart: Business and Management for 20-40 Year Old Professionals members, should put their futures in their own hands: there is no more time than now to do that.

There comes a time when you have to realize that it’s not going to happen the way you expected, and if you plan to survive it – or thrive in spite of it – you better do your own thing, as opposed to waiting to be saved.

The American people are respectfully waiting for their government and business leaders to do something to stimulate job growth, and for the last two-years, those same leaders have barely talked about a job plan, except in terms of how raising taxes will stall job growth. So not only have American leaders not been talking about a national jobs plan that is collaborated through public and private partnership, but they are talking about the most primary issue, as a peripheral one, which makes me think that they are really not serious about solving the unemployment issue.

The reason they won’t talk about it in specifics: they don’t have a plan — at least one that is smart and both immediate and long-term.

This is when American citizens must pivot, and see what’s happening – what’s not happening: and create their own national jobs plan – a plan that does not consider their political leaders: a plan that incentivizes business to hire long-term, one where we simplify and stabilize the corporate tax threshold and for the next few years, become a domestically-oriented, exporting machine. It should be a plan where all workers sacrifice some, so the most possible people can work full-time.

We are at the moment when regular people, hard-working people, should define their now and future now’s, and do so through their own needs and ambitions – and create a framework for making that happen. American citizens must know that the political and business class that they hope will move hastily for them – act wise for them, does not share the consequences of economic downturn with them, so they have no incentive to change their behavior, especially if the population is not ready to fire its elected leaders for under-performance.

So what do you do? You take those leaders out of the current equation: you take your power back and dispense it through shrewdness and collaboration — through a clearly-laid out  plan. Don’t think that someone is coming to your rescue: you better become your own advocate or else – this thing might end a lot worse than you imagine.

    Good luck.
