  • Watch Your Back: Job Service Scams Growing

Be careful – utilize due-diligence, because most legal career services do not ask for a fee from job-seekers, and if they do – your scam antenna should go up – somethings not right.

Desperate enough to buy a job: be careful that might not be a job at all.

As the economy sputters, and moves towards a seemingly double-dip recession, more and more people are looking at different types of fee-based job services. Unfortunately, many of the services, are no services at all.

In the article, Job Scammers on the Rise , it states, “Job seekers need to be on the look-out for potential scams,” says Stephen A. Cox, president and CEO of the Council of Better Business Bureaus. “Many job scammers are having candidates set up direct deposit accounts as part of the application process and making it seem as though it’s naturally part of the process to get an interview — when it’s absolutely not.”What do they want? Your personal contact details, your social security number and any other information that will help them access your money. Most people’s resumes have an enormous amount of personal information, including date of birth, education and employment history, address, phone number and email. It’s a lot of information to hand over to a stranger, especially over the Internet.”

Be careful – utilize due-diligence, because most legal career services do not ask for a fee from job-seekers, and if they do – your scam antenna should go up: besides – the department of labor has lists of various pro-bono employment services and your local better business bureau can discern the legality of a employment service that might not be on the up and up — somethings not right.

    Good luck.
