  • Fantasy Turns Deadly

Just learned of Chris Staniforth, who developed blood clots during an Xbox gaming marathon and died. It’s truly unfortunate, yet tells us to find balance between those things we love, and having separation from them so we can tend to our health.

Just learned of Chris Staniforth, an Xbox aficionado who developed blood clots during a marathon gaming session and died. It’s truly unfortunate, yet tells us to find balance between those things we love, and having separation from them at times, so we can tend to our spiritual, physical and mental health.

In the New York Daily News article, Xbox addict, Chris Staniforth, Killed by Blood Clot after Marathon Gaming Session in England, it tells of how Staniforth died due to excessive Xbox gaming.

In Xbox addict, Chris Staniforth, Killed by Blood Clot after Marathon Gaming Session in England, it states, “The family of an Xbox addict, who recently died during a marathon session playing video games, is pleading to other parents to protect their kids from excessive gaming. An autopsy revealed that Chris Staniforth, 20, suffered from deep vein thrombosis, which can be triggered by sitting in one position for long periods of time. Staniforth, of Sheffield, England would play on his console for up to 12 hours in one sitting…A coroner said his death in May was caused by a clot formed in the young man’s left calf before it moved to his lungs. Once it reached there, it caused a fatal blockage.”

I was of the first generation with video games in our homes (Atari): and now it seems rudimentary to have multiple gaming consoles within various points of the house. I do believe as much as gaming is attractive and competitive, it has also has adverse consequences on youth diets, exercise and social relations, when played excessively.

I would hope that those really invested in gaming would consider the necessary diversity of their experience and relationships, and be sensitive and responsible to the matter of addiction in gaming. If you got it under control and continue to exercise – rock on, but still be aware of how much time you spend gaming a day.

    Good Luck.
