  • Charisma: Do You Have It?

Traditionally, charisma is viewed as an inherent quality; you either have it or you don’t. As a manager, you have to motivate people to take action: can you present your strategy in a compelling way in order to inspire others.

Traditionally, charisma is viewed as an inherent quality; you either have it or you don’t.  But is this allure really just a reward to the chosen few?

Derek Murphy recently wrote a very smart article, “Leaders, Use Charisma to Your Advantage.” His mission: to help what he calls “Ben Stein” leaders (you remember that scene from “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off,” right?) develop the charismatic aura of a Martin Luther King or a Winston Churchill.

“As a manager,” he says, “you have to motivate people to take action, and one-way to accomplish this is to present your strategy in a compelling way in order to inspire others.”

Do you want to lead with the electrifying presence of President Obama?Whether or not you like his political positions, you can’t deny the magnetism of his personality. Murphy describes three steps that you can take to develop more charisma and apply it to your work as a manager.

If you’d like to become the kind of leader that people follow willingly, who subordinates work for happily, and who achieves remarkable results, take a few minutes to read Murphy’s article. Then start applying what you learn ASAP.
