  • Video Games: Classics Now In The Future

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D, Star Fox 64 3D, Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, Ico and Shadow of the Colossus Collection, God of War: Origins Collection – remastered & state-of-the-art

I’ve got tell you: I’m no gamer. I would rather be playing some type of physical sports, but when I mentioned an article about gaming to a friend that had touted the re-mastering of classic video games – my friend went on and on about what I was missing and that I was living in a way-gone area or something.

I told him that the games: The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D, Star Fox 64 3D, Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, Ico and Shadow of the Colossus Collection, God of War: Origins Collection would now have state of the art graphics and many would have live video feeds: I still did not know what the hell we were talking about, but through his enthusiasm and “mania,” he put on a good show.

I pointed him to the article in USA Today by Mike Snider, Classic Video Games Get Remastered, where all the advancements and features were described with great fanfare.

Snider stated, “Publishers often re-release games for new systems years after their first appearance. But fully remastering games is a newer trend that might pay off as players with HDTVs want games with high-definition graphics, says Ricardo Torres of news site GameSpot.com…”They are beginning to use the language you see in music and movies. It’s a lot sexier to say ‘We have this remastered thing,'” Torres says. “There’s a desire to play old games with better visuals; the classics don’t hold up too well on an HDTV.”Though the practice is unlikely to match the millions of dollars studios and labels make by re-issuing older titles, video game remasters “are a way to get more revenue out of their titles,” says Cowen and Company analyst Doug Creutz. “Console makers have a few really big franchises, and they are happy to get as much mileage out of them as they can.”

I don’t know if I ever will be a gamer, but it certainly has become more interesting: hopefully, it has become a whole lot better. Play on.

    Good Luck.
