After all the worrying and doubting my candidacy, I got a call last week for the final-round interview for the fellowship that had been my priority all this year. It was a research position at a leading think tank on energy and environment—two areas that I had significant professional and academic experience in. I made it far into the process, from having a 1-in-200 chance to 1-in-3. Learning from past experiences, I was determined to do my best and leave no stone unturned. Since it was a research position, I decided to read all the policy briefs that the center published which I hadn’t read before. I was familiar with the policy areas that were of significant interest to the senior associate for whom I would theoretically be working. I went through the notes I had taken from my internship last summer, scanned my thesis and all other relevant research papers that I had previously written. To get an idea of what the interview would be like, I was in touch with a previous fellow at the institute.
